INSTRUCTIONS

Your chair should be upholstered overall including  upholstered arms.  A piece of fabric large enough to cover the chair – a full size bedspread, sheet or quilt works great.

Fold your fabric in half to find the center of the short width.  (You need the longest part from the front over the back).

Place the cover over the chair placing the center of the cover in line with the center of the chair.

Drape starting at the front edge near the floor, up over the cushion, leaving a few extra inches of fabric on the seat, up and over the back.

Straighten the fabric starting at the bottom front of the chair down by the floor.  Check to see the fabric at the bottom is straight and parallel to the floor.

Smooth the fabric with your hands up the front and toward the back over the seat cushion to the back of the seat and from the sides of the seat cushion to the back of the cushion.

At the top of the back, pull the fabric smooth leaving a few inches at the back of the seat cushion to tuck in later.

Drape the fabric over each arm to the floor.  Leave enough fabric in the seat to tuck around the sides of the seat cushion and enough length on each side to just above the floor.

You will probably have long corner tails puddle on the floor at the sides at the back.  Go to the back of your chair and pick up these long corner tails.  Pull them gently around the back of the chair and tie in an attractive loose knot over the fabric draped over the back of the chair.

This secures the cover on the chair.

If your fabric goes only part way down the back you may want to drape or pin a piece of the same or coordinating fabric at the top of the back of the chair.  Fold or cut your fabric to cover the width of the back and long enough to drape just over the front of the back, over the back and down to the floor.

To put the back fabric piece on the chair, pull the original cover forward just enough to slip the back piece under it.  Straighten and smooth the fabric so it fits just right.

Now gently pull the main fabric back over the back of the chair draping it over the filler piece.

Again go to the back of your chair and pick up the long corner tails.  Pull them gently around the back of the chair and tie in an attractive loose knot over the fabric draped over the back of the chair.

Go back to the front of the chair and tuck the saved excess fabric around the sides and back of the seat cushion.

If you feel there is too much fabric draped at the front of the chair arms you may want to pin the fabric to the chair just under the arm for a more fitted-tailored look.

Do you have the right fabric to give your chair the look you want?

Look in your closet, linen closet and cedar chest.  Thrift stores and even yard sales can yield some great textiles to camouflage and change your look.
