Outdoor Kitchens and Barbecue Grills Expand Your Patio Rooms and Outdoor Living

Your built in outdoor barbecue grill should be fairly close to your back door... near the kitchen.... Use our ideas and sources to design, plan and build your barbecue grill and outdoor kitchen.

When planning your built in barbecue counter top place the barbecue grill off center leaving just enough room on one side to set down your platter of food ready to put on the grill to cook.

On the other side of your barbecue grill have a serving space large enough for the grilled platter and if there is room - side dishes too.  This way you can grill and serve your barbecue meal outside all from your built in grill.

Some folks like a side burner for beans, barbecue sauces and other hot barbecue.  Install your side burner next to your barbecue grill. Your serving area should be beyond that.

Build your barbecue grill counter 36" high finished.  The barbecue grill will sit recessed into the top keeping the grill surface area around counter height.  Leave enough room to the back of the barbecue grill to open the top without hitting the backsplash.

If you have electricity in the barbecue counter, the addition of an under counter refrigerator is a great outdoor kitchen addition.  Some folks build shelves under their barbecue counters for extra outdoor kitchen storage.  You can store all kinds of things....  Spiders like these areas too.....

When installing cabinets and doors, be careful your materials withstand the weather in your area.  Stainless steel doors will work everywhere, but can get quite costly.

Have you considered using the grill area as an outdoor entertainment area, possibly a sitting bar?  Remember the barbecue grill gets hot and puts out a lot of heat.  Sitting right behind it will be uncomfortable.

Position your patio barstools at the end away from the barbecue grill.

A "P" shape is great for entertaining.  Place your barbecue grill in the narrow straight part of the outdoor kitchen counter top.  Leave enough cantilever (overhang) on the round end to pull your patio barstools around.

Complete your Barbecue Room with a Patio Umbrella in the center of the sitting area.  Make your Patio or Market Umbrella stand by designing a hole in the center of the sitting area with a two inch piece of PVC pipe.

If your don't have room for the big "P" built in barbeque grill top - Design your outdoor kitchen with a straight top barbecue grill counter with enough room on each side to the barbecue to put your platters.

An under counter refrigerator is a great addition to your barbecue set up and a great convenience for your outdoor living.  Some people will even add a small bar sink with running water and a French drain

Place your Patio Furniture table set near the barbecue area.  Top off your patio table with a market umbrella or patio umbrella to complete your outdoor kitchen or patio room.

A portable barbecue grill is placed near the eating area with your patio table set is great too.  Keeping a cover on any style barbecue will keep them new and looking nice.

Have you tried your hand at landscape design with “draw,” “paint,” and some of the others?  Wished you had autocad, but don’t want to spend that much money on software just for your own backyard?  Punch software is the cat’s meow for landscape, interior design; all of it.  Punch software is a fraction of the cost and in my opinion much, much easier to use and gives you a lot more tools and flexibility.

The Materials on your barbecue grill should be a part of your whole landscape design and garden design.

Top off your barbecue grill with tile, flagstone, slate, or brick.  Be sure to seal these porous materials so they won't stain from barbecue splatter!

Tile is the best alternative for durability and clean up.  You'll want to seal the grout on your barbecue grill counter.  Your tile selection could match your swimming pool tile, your patio floor tile or even a tile or slate used on the interior rooms adjoining the your patio.

For those chilly times you want to eat outside a propane patio heater is a great addition to your outdoor living and extends your patio and barbecue season.  Find a good selection at Yardiac.com -Patio Heaters at Wholesale Prices
