Home Decorating Style: Take the decorating style and taste test!

Workshop 1. You will need several home decorating magazines. Preferably a few different titles or styles. If you don't have them you can buy them at used bookstores and sometimes the library for less than a dollar each. New ones are available online with big monthly savings here. Home & Garden

Have a pencil/pen and post it notes ready.

Step 1. Take 5 pictures of different decor style rooms from your magazines. Each decorating style must be different. You can like the rooms or not. Don't spend a lot of time finding these pictures. Just have 5 pictures with different decorating styles.

Use the Descriptive Words below.   You will select from these words to express what you see.

Can you get out of your head? Go to your feelings and emotions. Have some drama.! Make daring and dramatic choices when selecting your words to express your emotional response to what you see.

You will be referring to these Descriptive Words in this workshop:

Step 2. Take one of your decorating style pictures. Look at it. Find three words on the list that best express your reaction to that picture. Write the three words on a post it and put it on the picture. Do this for each of your pictures.

Step 3. Evaluate. Did you express your feelings simply and directly? Do you trust your responses; your instincts and impressions?

Did you find attitudes and reactions surfacing that you never knew you had? An awareness of your emotions and feelings is important and useful when decorating in your own style.

This exercise will help you use words to express your emotional reaction to your impressions in all four decorating style exercises.

Your words are going to be different from your friend's, your neighbor's, even your spouse's. They are supposed to be. Each of you has your own instinctive taste.
