You may
have a curved wall that you cannot figure out how or what to
hang on it. This is a perfect inexpensive solution with big buck
presence! Or you
may just have a need to hang a great piece of art someplace in
you home.

If you
have any canvas in your fabric remnants or have an old canvas
car or boat cover you are going to throw away, that is perfect
for your original art! If you don’t have any on hand, you only need to buy a yard
at a fabric or art store.

For
inspiration you may have a magazine picture of something
abstract like another painting, fabric print, colors on a
plate or piece of pottery. Check
out some of the prints and art for inspiration

When
selecting your colors, you may want to include those in your
color scheme and a new accent color or two.

Step 1:
Cut
canvas in shape or shapes to your liking and sizes that will
work where you are going to hang them.
If the edges fray or ravel a little, that is part of
the originality of the piece.
The
sample project has three pieces for interest and were cut to
fit for where they are hanging…..The big void above the
cabinets in the kitchen with a 10 foot ceiling.
Step 2
Start
painting! If you
have several pieces they do not have to match in any way or
they can. You
don’t have to cover the whole canvas with paint. It’s OK if you do.
These
have lots of canvas still showing as the white space. Notice
each has a border of sorts and there are triangles painted in
each of the three pieces. The colors are all in the color scheme of the home.
When you
are happy with what you have.
Let dry.
Step 3.
Cut out a
block or blocks of the Styrofoam. Glue to the back of the
canvas.
Position
the blocks so they hold the painting out from the wall
anywhere from a half inch to an inch.
This gives the painting depth on the wall.
Step 4.
Hang your
art! The sample
is small and light enough it was hung by sticking a couple one
and a half inch long straight pins in each through the canvas,
styrofoam backing and into the dry wall.
