Garden Arbor and Trellis Define
Space in Your Landscape Design and Garden Design
You can make a trellis
yourself with our free instructions or your garden
trellis can be a found object. Maybe you will
buy a beautifully
crafted wooden arbor. When
shopping at yard sales, flea markets and thrift stores keep
your eyes open for interesting grates, old gates or fence
sections...things vines can crawl up and flourish.
This old rusted European gate
was found at a thrift store.
Leaned against the wall with
pink jasmine twined all through it gives you something
wonderful to feast your eyes on out the family room window,
not to mention the fragrance and warm welcome as you enter
the backyard.

Make your own Garden Trellis from Metal Rebar
A
fun and unusual trellis can be made from inexpensive
everyday items. Try
varying lengths of rebar pounded securely into the ground.
Wire mesh used for concrete with the 3x3 or 4x4 open
squares can be shaped in a variety of ways then pushed
securely into the ground.
Garden Trellis
from Wire Mesh
One
of my favorite trellises with the mesh. Take a sheet
of wire mesh 4x8 feet.
Cut out the cross wire at one of the 4’ ends so you
have at least 18” lengths sticking out.
Take your needle nose pliers and shape each end in a
loose coil or triangle.
They can be varying lengths and sizes for interest.
Take
the other 4’ end. Cut
the cross wire until you have at least 18”.
Push this end into the ground as you go.
Shaping your piece of mesh trellis into an “S” or
“wave”. You
may need to add some rebar at strategic spots to secure it.
Now
train your vine up the trellis.
You will love the color and the look
of the trellis as it weathers and changes patina.
More
and more local nurseries and garden centers are adding
accessories like trellises and arbors. Even Big Lots and
joann.com
have trellises seasonally.
